Things I never thought I would do

I knew Motherhood would take me out of my comfort zone at times & this morning was one of those times. Cade’s daycare has been having parents sign up to read to the class once a week in the summer. Well, I signed Judson up to read today but he back out last night (something about deadlines at work or something…in his defense he said he will do it in a couple of weeks). I couldn’t let them not have a reader today so I decided to go in Judson’s place. I am not really a kid person, especially ramdom kids I barley know. Anyway, I picked out 2 books, one of which is Cade’s favorite. When we got there I tried to get Cade to sit with the kids but she was determined to sit with me, her teacher said they usually let the kids sit on their parent’s lap if they come to read. She was so excited to sit with my while I read…it was really neat. After the first book the kids all clapped and I’m pretty sure she thought they were clapping for her. The second book was Cade’s favorite and she read certain lines along with me. I’m glad she is too young to realize she should be embarrassed that her mom is not very good at reading out loud to a room full of icky kids but it really was a good experience for me. The things we do for these kids!

Neglected

I know I have been neglecting the blog…I will try to get better. We’ve been traveling a bunch over the past couple months so now it is time to stay home and work. We made a trip to Calgary, I went on a girls’ trip to NYC, Cade & I made a last minute trip to Saskatchewan & Judson has had several bike races. Cade is definitely growing up and becoming a sweet little girl (most of the time).  Here are a few pictures of things we’ve doing.

Update

Sorry, for the long delay in updating. We really appreciate everyone praying for Steven. Basically he was worse off than he initially told us. He is back in the U.S. & should get to come home for a little while.  A huge blessing is that he is stationed near the Nelms family (Uncle, Aunt & Cousins) so they were able to meet him when he got back. I stole the picture from Cousin Amanda’s facebook page. I don’t know how much I am supposed to post on a blog & I’m not always sure I have all the right information (boys just don’t seem to give details as much as girls would) but thank you for keeping Judson’s family in your prayers.

Hard Times

I’ve been meaning to post an update for a while but I wish the topic of this post was better; it hasn’t been a good day for the Copeland family. The day started with a text from Judson’s dad telling him Steven had been hurt by a grenade but we didn’t know how badly he had been hurt. Apparently the family receives a phone call from Washington telling them their solider is hurt but don’t give much details. Well, Judson’s mom talked to Steven today….they say it is just “superficial wounds” and he should be okay in a couple weeks. We were hoping this would mean he would get to come home but no such luck but we will take any blessings we can get. This is really making this whole situation more “real”; we have tried not to think about details of what he is doing just to handle the stress but I guess we have to face reality sometime.
In Laura’s call she also told us that their Uncle Irvin had passed away. He is like a surrogate grandfather to Judson & Steven so it is sad to lose him. His health has been failing for a while but it is still hard. This is the family that Judson’s family celebrates all their holidays with and Saturday night Taco Bell tradition. This year we have lost 2 members of the family… I wish I was better at writing but this is a difficult time.
Please keep the Copeland family in your prayers!

Bad Mom

As many of you may know Cade is a little challenged in the hair department. It was really started to grow in the last couple of months but there still isn’t much there. Anyway, we were upstairs cleaning out the supplies under the bathroom sink. She was quietly playing with the cotton balls as I sorted soap & bottles of lotion. I looked up and she was had Judson’s shaving kit in her lap & was looking at a razor. Being the “good mom” that I am I went over to take it from her. She was just looking at it & I noticed something on it. I thought maybe she shaved a cotton ball or something but then I saw the back of her head & it was her own hair! I am mortified….it looks terrible. I immediately started to think about what I could do to fix it; she doesn’t have long enough hair to cover over it, I’m not going to cut the rest to match since it has taken his long to get here…there is nothing I can do.  So, I’m sorry baby girl…I know every girl has to do some stupid hair cut on themselves at some point…I hope this is our ONE!

Big Girl

I took this picture of Cade this morning on our way top school. She just woke up so she wasn’t really in the mood to smile yet but I just thinks she looks sooo big. She had her 18month (wow where does the time go) appointment yesterday. She was 19.6lbs (3rd percentile), 29.something inches (5th percentile) and her head was in the 25th percentile. So given her stats she isn’t too big but it just seems like it to an emotional Mom. I think the other part of it is how big she thinks she is…she just acts like a big kid (except for the paci I am trying to get rid of). I’ve said it before but I really don’t think she could be more fun…who knew?

Our Funny Valentine

I’m pretty sure Cade gets sweeter every day. She provides so much entertainment for us. On Friday night we went to The Wedge for pizza. If you’ve never eaten there it is great but pretty small. They were pretty busy & the governor was there so I’m sure they were a little preoccupied with that. Anyway, Cade was getting pretty hungry and ever plate that went by I thought she was going to pull it out of the waiter’s hands. Our waitress was great and brought complimentary meatballs while we waited. I was taking pictures of Cade “hamming it up” so she brought us a plate of pizza dough with flour on it for a better shoot op. It was a lot of fun to watch Cade poke her finger into it. She didn’t make as big of a mess as I expected but we had a great time.

the girls

Cade had her first Sunday in “Big Girl” Sunday School (finally out of the nursery). She was able to sit with the other girls from our class. We took the first picture when she was about 2 weeks old…the second one was taken 17 months later. I really wish they didn’t have to grow up so quickly but they sure are cute. (first pic is in age order Ava, Piper, Lainey & Cade…the second pic is in no order Lainey, Ava, Cade & Piper)

Ice Storm 2010

Cade kept herself pretty busy while we were trapped in the house for a couple of days. She really enjoys riding bikes with her Dad but she is getting serious decked out in the team jersey. In her down time from riding she would rearrange her stool & new chair Bobber sent her last week (I think the chair might be taller than her but she doesn’t seem to notice). We did catch her filling up her teapot with Pod’s water dish and then drinking it…we draw the line somewhere so we actually did stop her from that. Overall it wasn’t too bad hanging out for a couple days but I think we are all glad to be back to our normal routine.

Crawford 25 year cruise

A couple weeks ago Judson & I had the opportunity to go on ANOTHER cruise with my office. I know I am completely spoiled and blessed to have such a great work environment. We had a good time and relaxed a lot. This trip was a little different for us since we missed Cade but she had a wonderful time being spoiled by Grandma (I guess that is a 16 month olds version of a cruise). This time we stopped in Honduras, Costa Maya, MX & Cozumel, MX.  We mostly went to beaches and relaxed…I burned pretty bad the first day but still enjoyed the other days. Now my Mom has gone back home, we are back to work & the real world has to set back in.

Attention Attention!

Well, Cade had a very eventful Christmas. She really seemed to enjoy entertaining all the adults. We had to force her to go to bed every night because she wanted to stay up and play. Of course she got a lot of presents and she knew how to ham it up each time she opened one. Her reaction to Santa’s gifts was exactly what I was hoping…this year it really hit me that Christmas is really about the kids, who knew? We started Christmas in Broken Arrow surprising Judson’s mom with his brother Steven coming home from Georgia. We finished up in Grand Prairie, TX at my sister’s house. One of my favorite gifts were matching aprons my mom made for Cade & I. The picture of the 2 of us together wasn’t great since she was too busy to pose for pictures but hopefully we can get some baking pictures later. We went to Medieval Times one night while we were in Texas. We had debated not taking Cade with us but that would have been a huge mistake…she LOVED it. I’m pretty sure I watched her 80% of the time because she was so excited to see all of the horses. We had a great holiday but now we are back to the “real world” for a week before we go on vacation next week…I know it will be tough but I think we will make it.
