DAVID LYNN, Head Golf Coach
Well, the last month of the season just flew by. We played our national tournament the second week of May in Plymouth, Indiana. The tournament went well with the exception of the second round. We shot 287-307-282-292 and finished second of 27 teams to the University of British Columbia. So, I guess technically we are Continental United States NAIA national champions! The winner beat us on the second day by 26 strokes to beat us overall by 12, so the second day really sunk our hopes of a national championship. However, we stood in eighth place after two rounds and fought back to finish second, beating our all of our conference rivals, etc.
All five guys were recognized as All-Americans. Bruno, Fernando and Rhein were all first-team selections, Axel made the second team, and Oscar made the third team. This made Bruno and Rhein four-time first-team All-Americans, which I am very proud of. For Fernando it was his third honor in three years. Fernando tied for third at our national championship - 69-74-71-72 (-3) - to tie the best finish of any OC golfer ever. All in all, it was a very productive season and, although we came up short of our ultimate goal, I am very proud of the guys.
Thank you so much to everyone that donated to the program this year. To be honest, I was blown away by your generosity. We did some special things over the past year and I couldn’t be more happy with the involvement of our benefactors. I owe a big debt of gratitude to my biggest supporters: Greg Lynn and Mark Trimble. Through their kindness and friendships, I have met many of you. We couldn’t have accomplished any of the things we have at OC without those relationships.
Lastly, I have decided to step down as men’s golf coach. I have been working with Phidippides Capital for the past three years in addition to my golf duties. The opportunity has presented itself to do this work fulltime and I couldn’t be more excited about this upcoming challenge. This is a great opportunity for me and my family that I want to take full advantage of. I am very torn because I have enjoyed my time at Oklahoma Christian so much and being around all of you and the kids has been such a blessing for me. I will always support the team and school 100 percent.
Thank You So Much!
