ALLISSA HEJL, Softball
Alright, ladies and gentlemen, here it is. The first blog for the Lady Eagle softball team.
So I am sure you all have been wondering what we have been up to this past fall. Well let me recap for you: practice, scrimmage, practice, conditioning, weightlifting, conditioning, weightlifting, conditioning, weightlifting, conditioning, yada, yada, yada. What I am trying to say is that we are in shape. We are faster and stronger because while most of the world (well at least those in our time zone) were snuggled up in bed at 5:30 a.m., we have been dragging our exhausted bodies out into the extremely cold gym where we willingly gave our lives over to Jack (think ultimate fighting champion). Now Jack is a great guy, please don’t misunderstand me, but I am trying to get you to understand how hard we have been working and it is easier to sound tough when I make him sound tough. For those of you that are more mathematically minded let me put it this way:
We leg press approximately 200lbs against the acceleration of gravity (9.8 m/s2 ) which equals an applied force of 1.96 x 103 Newtons. And since work equals the force times distance, we have technically done (1.96 x 103 N) x (0.333 meters) = 653 N*m of work per repetition. At 30 reps per session that equals 1.96 x 104 N*m of work.
Do you see what I am getting at? If we have done that much work at just one weight station on one morning, think about all of the work we have done in the past five months. A lot. I tell you all of this not to be a whiner (though I am, ask Jack) but to tell you how much we love this sport and to try and explain how dedicated we are to this season. We have put in the time and we are ready to play. We are faster, stronger, leaner, meaner, tougher, rougher, and you know what? I even feel a little bit taller.

The Edmond Sun runs a regular feature on the front page of its sports section that highlights “Athletic Achievers” who excel on and off the field. The Sun has featured Oklahoma Christian often recently, profiling one of OC’s 10 NAIA Scholar Teams per day. Click here to read about this remarkable achievement by OC’s athletic programs.
