Buccolo, Gibson fall in state quarterfinals

OC All-Americans Bruno Buccolo and Rhein Gibson lost squeakers in the quarterfinals of the Oklahoma Golf Association’s State Amateur Championship at The Trails Golf Club in Norman Wednesday.

NAIA national champion Daniel Mitchell of Oklahoma City, the third seed, needed six extra holes before edging the 11th-seeded Gibson 1-up in 24 holes.

Buccolo, the two-seed, fell victim to the biggest upset in the tournament. Duncan High School senior Tyler Rice won 1-up, with a Buccolo bogey at 16 being the difference.

Best Seat in the house

Scroll down to the bottom of this page on the College Sports Information Directors of America website and you’ll see OC athletic communications coordinator Dave Seat. He played on the first-place team in CoSIDA’s annual softball tournament. (The tournament is held in conjunction with the organization’s yearly convention).

Dave is the guy on the far left of the top row, sporting the “SD” cap of his beloved San Diego Padres. As part of the winning cause, he hit a home run (or a single with a three-base error, depending on how you want to score it).

When you’re on the CoSIDA website, you may also see recently retired Stan Green on some of the page headers. Stan was very active in CoSIDA; he’s a member of the organization’s hall of fame and was honored with a lifetime achievement award at this year’s convention.
