Welcome to our site! This is the Lovejoy family blog where we talk about all kinds of stuff. Mostly we talk about minutia and our beautiful son Elijah.

The longer I live here, the more I like Oklahoma City. On February 3, the city will open a bond-funded skate park on the Oklahoma River for skateboarding, inline skating and BMX freestyle biking. (Wonder how long it will take before typing “The Oklahoma River” no longer makes me smirk.)
What I don’t understand is how the city can operate a skate park given the enormous liability that must attach. Either they have some sort of immunity, or the liability is much less than I think. Other cities require a liability release form and admission fees. I am nowhere near being a lawyer, but I imagine that charging admission could only increase your liability. Maybe that’s why they need a release form.
Our park (It makes me proud to say “our park” even though I technically live in Edmond) is free and requires no release. This notice is posted prominently on the web site:
This park is a skate or ride at your own risk, non-supervised, facility designed for skateboards, in-line skating and BMX freestyle biking only.
How much indemnification can that notice really provide? I guess we’ll find out when Daniel and Conway make a commercial about it.
HT Charles. As usual.
