Dan & Angi have something to say

¡Adelante!

Even though the result is up in the air, the Mexican election was astoundingly successful. And not just by Mexican standards- by anyone’s standards. (And Florida’s Secretary of State should probably fly down there for training)

Mary Anastasia O’Grady writes in the WSJ:

If institutions matter to development, as Nobel laureate Douglass North contends, then Mexico is well on the way to progress.

Let us all hope so. I did a pretty extensive, yet naïve report on Mexican election fraud in college - I even got a DHL package marked “Diplomatic Pouch” from the Mexican government with lots of information about the process and the new laws. I interviewed officials - the whole nine yards.  I wish I had kept it. I do remember that it was ridiculously optimistic about the prospects for reform.

It appears that my optimism, while early, may have been justified. It will take many, many years, but I think Mexico may be on the way to prosperity. Open, free, and honest elections are a great first step.
