Agan Serves as Faculty Sponsor for Sigma Tau Delta National Conference in Pittsburgh

Dr. Cami Agan, Professor of English and Chair of the Language and Literature Department at OC served as faculty sponsor for students attending the Sigma Tau Delta National Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 23-26, 2011.  Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Society.  Dr. Agan has been a professor at Oklahoma Christian University since the fall of 1997.

Steele Attended NINE Conference

Dr. Willie Steele, Associate Professor of English, presented a paper titled, “The Long and Short of It:  Analyzing the Novels and Short Fiction of W. P. Kinsella,” at NINE:  A Journal of Baseball History and Culture Conference.  This was NINE’s 18th Annual Conference on the Historical and Sociological Impact of Baseball.  The conference was held in Tempe, AZ, on March 9-12, 2011.  Dr. Steele served as a teacher at Cascade College from the fall of 2005 to 2009, and he began teaching at Oklahoma Christian University in the fall of 2009.

Dr. Briley Presents on Malta

Dr. Rebecca Briley, Associate Professor of Language and Literature, presented a paper titled “Teaching English Languages via Theatre Production” at the International Journal of Arts and Sciences Conference that was held on the island of Malta on March 6-10, 2011.  Dr. Briley joined the Oklahoma Christian University faculty in the fall of 2010.

6th Annual McBride Lecture for Faith & Literature

Dana Gioia, national arts executive, poet and librettist, will participate in McBride Center symposia September 30 and October 1. The sixth annual McBride Lecture for Faith & Literature is titled “Literacy, Literature, and the Individual: Transforming the Quality of Personal Character,” and will serve as the keynote address to scholars from across the region who will be on campus for the annual Southwest Conference of the Conference on Christianity and Literature that Oklahoma Christian University is hosting.  Dr. Scott LaMascus, Professor of English, serves as the Director of the McBride Lectures.  Dr. LaMascus has been teaching at OC since the fall of 1999.

Students’ Papers Published in Review

Congratulations are extended to two OC students in the Language and Literature Department who recently had papers from the Film as Literature course accepted for publication in the National English Honors Society Journal, the Sigma Tau Delta Review, a very prestigious national literary journal.  The students receiving this honor were Wil Norton, a senior English major from Edmond, OK, and Cady Haas, a junior English major from Wichita, KS.

Steele Attends Conference in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Willie Steele, Associate Professor of English, attended the Silberman Seminar for University Faculty at the United State Holocaust Memorial Museum Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies in Washington, D.C. on June 2-15, 2010.  Dr. Steele who formerly taught at Cascade College in Portland, Oregon, began teaching on the main campus of Oklahoma Christian University in the fall of 2009.
