EDMOND, Okla. (Feb. 27, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian tennis teams both came away with victories at the Eagle Tennis Indoor Classic over Cowley County Community College on Friday with the women winning 7-2 and the men triumphing 6-3.
The Lady Eagles’ tennis squad had little trouble in the singles competition against Cowley County winning all but one match. Olfa Dhaoui fell on the tiebreaker round 6-10 to Adrijana Pavlovic giving CCCC their lone singles victory.
Maja Vuzem, Maja Plavsic, Andreea Constantinescu, Leila Keihani, andVimbai Mawisire all played to dominating two set victories.
In doubles play, Vuzem and Plavsic teamed to lose a tight match 6-8. Dhaoui and Constantinescue joined together to take away an 8-0 shoutout while Keihani and Mawisire cooperated to finish out the match with an 8-2 victory.
The 7-2 victory is the sixth team win for the Lady Eagles who are now 6-1 overall.
In the men’s competition, the Eagles’ Martin Poboril had no problem winning his first singles set 6-1 before narrowly dropping the second 5-7 and falling on the tiebreaker 6-10.
Thomas Van Cauter, Etienne Leite, and Renardy Guelfi all found no trouble earning quick two set victories to score for the Eagles in singles play. Esteban Flores took a two set victory over CCCC’s Alex Dickson 6-3, 6-4 and the Eagles Chase Miller fell 3-6, 4-6 to Tom Giband.
For doubles, Poboril and Leite fell in a tight match 6-8 while Van Cauter and Guelfi captured the next match 8-3. Miller and Flores finished off the Eagles’ victory by taking the last match 8-5.
The No. 10 Eagles now hold a 10-1 team record for the season.
The OC tennis teams will play next at the Auburn University Montgomery on March 12-14.
