Softball takes two from Midland Lutheran

OKLAHOMA CITY (March 19, 2010) – The Lady Eagles brought their bats to work scoring 18 runs in two games and sweeping a doubleheader against Midland Lutheran College on Friday winning game one 10-0 and taking the second 8-3.

Game 1

After retiring Midland Lutheran’s first three batters in the top of the first inning, the Lady Eagles wasted no time getting on the board. Christin Dobbs led things off with a bunt single and was driven in by DaVee Croy to give the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second the Lady Eagles took complete control scoring nine runs. Michelle Miller capped off the scoring for the Lady Eagles with a grand slam to take a commanding 10-0 lead.

After the second inning neither team was able to get anything going from the plate, but the damage had already been done and the Lady Eagles took game one 10-0 with a run rule.

Sophia McKean picked up the win for the Lady Eagles pitching all five innings and only giving up two hits while recording four strikeouts.

Miller led the Lady Eagles at the plate, going 1-for-4 with four RBI and Croy went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Amber Canady, Ashley Calles, Taylor Renshaw and Deidre Chatigny all had one RBI apiece.

Game 2

Midland Lutheran finally broke through and scored a run in the top of the first after Erinn Brue homered to left off Caitlin Matthies’ pitch to give Midland Lutheran a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Eagles answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Dobbs led off with a single and was again driven in by Croy who tripled to left. Croy was then driven in by Amy Urbanovsky to take the lead for the Lady Eagles at 2-1.

In the top of the third, Midland Lutheran scored two runs and chased Matthies from the game. Leigh Leonard replaced Matthies and struck out two in a row to end the inning after giving up a base on balls and a single. Going into the bottom of the third the Lady Eagles trailed 3-2.

In the bottom of the third the Lady Eagles tied the game at 3-3 when Miller singled to right to bring home Urbanovsky.

Dobbs scored on a double to left field by Canady to give the Lady Eagles a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning.

The Lady Eagles blew the game open in the bottom of the sixth scoring four more runs highlighted by a three run homerun by Calles, making it an 8-3 game.

Leonard picked up the win for the Lady Eagles, pitching 4.2 innings and recording eight strikeouts.

Croy led the way at the plate going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Miller followed going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

The Lady Eagles will hit the road to take on St. Gregory’s University on March 20 in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
