CONWAY, Ark. (March 2, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian softball squad played to a 2-2 split in four games this past weekend at the Central Baptist College tournament in Conway, Ark.
The Lady Eagles first took on Culver-Stockton College (Mo.) on Friday and captured a quick 13-1 win, ending the game early.
After a scoreless first inning and both teams scoring a run apiece in the second, the Lady Eagles took off in the next three innings to total another 12 runs on the board. The OC women tacked on five runs in the third, four in the fourth, and three runs in the fifth holding CSC scoreless all the while.
Amber Canady and Amy Urbanovsky both went two for four from the plate with Urbanovsky hitting a homerun. DaVee Croy hit two for three with a homer and Ashley Calles led the Lady Eagles going three for four. Each batted in two runs for the Lady Eagles besides Urbanovsky, who tallied four RBIs.
Leigh Leonard threw seven strikeouts from the mound and pitched the entire game for the Lady Eagles.
Friday’s second game for the Lady Eagles left the squad coveting runs as they fell in a 1-0 shutout. The game was scoreless through all seven innings and was not decided till the eighth inning when Columbia College (Mo.) scored a lone run.
The run was enough to win the game, as the Lady Eagles were unable to respond in the bottom of the eighth and lost 1-0.
Deidre Chatigny led at the plate hitting two out of three.
On Saturday, the Lady Eagles played through a tight match with William Jewell College and earned the victory seven runs to six in the last inning.
William Jewell got on the board first with two runs in the second inning and scored another in the third inning. The Lady Eagles responded in the second with one run and then had four runners cross home plate in the third to take the lead 5-3.
In the fourth, WJC tallied three runs to take the lead and held the Lady Eagles scoreless until the sixth and seventh innings when OC scored one run in each to take the win 7-6.
Croy led the Lady Eagles’ batting going two for three and scoring two runs and two RBIs. Canady and Taylor Renshaw each went two for four at the plate with a RBI apiece.
For the Lady Eagles’ final game, they took on Central Methodist University (Mo.). OC brought home two runs in each of the first two innings to take the early lead. Central Methodist retorted in the bottom of the second scoring five runs to lead the Lady Eagles.
CMU added another in the third before OC got on the board again in the fifth with two runs to tie the game at 6-6. In the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings CMU tallied a total of five more runs to take the game 11-6.
Christin Dobbs, Canady, Urbanovsky, and Croy all hit two for four at the plate while Renshaw batted two for three. Dobbs and Urbanovsky each tallied two RBIs.
Leonard pitched the entire game and threw nine strikeouts.
The Lady Eagles are now 2-4 for the season and will host Mid-America Christian University (Okla.) at home tomorrow at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader.
