OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (March 3, 2010) – The Lady Eagles’ softball team split Wednesday’s doubleheader with Mid-America Christian University (Okla.) at home dropping the first game 1-0 and winning the second 10-2 on a run rule.
Game 1
The first game proved to be a fielding matchup as neither team scored until the fifth inning when Mid-America Christian got a runner home on a ground out to the pitcher.
The Lady Eagles were unable to respond and held the Lady Evangels scoreless for the remainder of the game to yield a 1-0 loss.
The OC women were able to tally five hits, however, with two who came from Christin Dobbs who hit two for three at the plate. Amber Canady, Amy Urbanovsky, and Michelle Miller each had one hit.
Game 2
The Lady Eagles were ready from the start in game two getting on the board early.
In the first inning, Dobbs reached home after Ashley Calles grounded out to second to give the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead.
MACU retook the lead at the top of the second when they brought home two runners. The Lady Eagles responded with a spirited second inning as they registered six runs to take a dominating lead.
With both Taylor Renshaw and Miller on base, Kayla Jennings hit a short single to bring home Renshaw. Now Miller and Jennings remained on base before Dobbs hit a triple to bring both home. Canady then followed with a left field single that brought Dobbs home to add another score for the Lady Eagles. Calles then proceeded to hit a triple that batted in Canady and then reached home after Urbanovsky hit a single.
The Lady Eagles led MACU 7-1 heading into the third and held the Lady Evangels scoreless for the remainder of the game.
In the bottom of the third, Deidre Chatigny tallied a run for the Lady Eagles after stealing second and then scoring after Dobb’s singled up the middle.
The Lady Eagles ended the game early scoring two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn a 10-2 run rule. The scores came from Renshaw and Miller who were batted in by a triple from Chatigny.
Dobbs led the Lady Eagles at the plate going two for two while scoring two runs and tallying three RBIs. Chatigny went two for two as well and batted in two runs. Jennings and Canady each went two for three with an RBI.
Caitlan Matthies pitched a complete game allowing only two runs and four hits.
The Lady Eagles return to the OC Softball field tomorrow when they host Northwestern Oklahoma State University in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
