Snider leads team with school record performance

EMPORIA, Kan. (May 15, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian track and field team had several athletes meet qualifying marks once again on Saturday at the Emporia State University Twilight meet.

Rachel Snider and Irene Masai each met the provisional qualifying mark in the 1500-meter run. Snider came across the line in 4:45.43 to place sixth in the event and to narrowly eclipse her previous school record of 4:45.49 set earlier this season. Masai was just a step behind Snider finishing in seventh place with a 4:45.54.

Nicole Lair came away with the only victory on Saturday as she claimed the women’s 5000-meter run with a time of 18:45.40.

Denise Mattoon took away two fourth place finishes from the meet in both the shot put and hammer events. Mattoon met the automatic qualifier in both events with a throw of 44 feet, three quarter inches in the shot put and a toss of 177 feet, six inches in the hammer.

For the Eagles, Brayden Barrietez was the only top five finisher as he ran to a fifth place performance in the 1500-meter run. Barrientez came across the line in 3:58.15 missing the provisional mark in the event by just half a second.

The OC track and field team will set their sights on the national meet scheduled for May 27-29, in Marion, Indiana.
