MARION, Ind. (May 28, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian track and field team continued their success at the NAIA outdoor national track meet on Friday with athletes advancing to event finals and a new school record.
Irene Masai competed for the Lady Eagles in the 800-meter run semifinals and placed fourth in the second heat of two. Her time of 2:13.36 narrowly missed qualifying for finals by one position. The time, however, eclipses her previous school record of 2:15.58 set earlier this season.
Also competing for the Lady Eagles were Denise Mattoon in the shot put and Roz Hamilton in the heptathlon. Mattoon finished ninth in the shot put with a toss of 45 feet, five and three quarter inches while Hamilton finished out the heptathlon in 14th with a score of 4318.
On the men’s side of competition, Silas Kisorio and Frezer Legesse both advanced to the 800-meter run finals grabbing two of the eight available positions. Kisorio won the first of two heats with a 1:50.86 while Legesse qualified on place as well with a third place finish in the same heat clocking a 1:51.24.
Phillip Dale placed 18th in the long jump with a best performance of 22 feet, 11 inches.
The OC track and field team will close out their season tomorrow with Kisorio and Legesse both competing in the finals for the 1500-meter run and 800-meter run. Brandon Jackson will also compete for the Eagles in the triple jump.
