BROWNSVILLE, Texas (Sept. 16, 2011) – Oklahoma Christian’s trip to south Texas proved not so successful, as the Lady Eagles fell 4-1 to Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) on Friday, capping an 0-2 stint in the Scorpion Soccer Classic.
Stephanie Diaz and Amanda Lozano each scored a pair of goals and had an assist for Our Lady of the Lake (3-2) in the first half as the Saints ran away from Oklahoma Christian (2-3).
OC also lost 2-0 to host Texas-Brownsville on Thursday. OC head coach Randall Robison succinctly summarized the Lady Eagles’ experience this week: “Rough trip.”
Diaz scored in the fifth minute for Our Lady of the Lake. Katelyn Frederick equalized for the Lady Eagles at the 18:01 mark, but Lozano’s two goals came about a minute apart in the 28th and 29th minute, giving the Saints a 3-1 lead.
Diaz scored again in the 39th minute. Kaitlyn Whitten relieved Chelsie Flagg in the goal in the second half for Oklahoma Christian and blanked the Saints the rest of the way, making five saves, but the Lady Eagles couldn’t narrow the gap.
Our Lady of the Lake outshot OC 15-10.
The road doesn’t get any easier for the Lady Eagles, who now face a trip Tuesday to Hastings (Neb.), last year’s NAIA women’s soccer runner-up. OC’s next home game will be Friday against Houston-Victoria (Texas).
This video features scenes from Chuck White’s final home game as OC’s head baseball coach. Coach White was the driving force in the revival of the baseball program and the construction of Dobson Field and the Bobby Murcer Indoor Training Facility.
