OC sends 13 to outdoor national meet

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (May 24, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian track and field team will send 13 athletes to compete at the 2010 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Marion, Ind.

Silas Kisorio, ten-time All-American for the Eagles, will be competing in the men’s 1500 and 800-meter run events. Kisorio is ranked second of 25 runners in the 1500 and first of 22 runners in the 800 with a qualifying time of 1:49.21.

Frezer Legesse will also be competing for the Eagles in the 1500 and 800-meter run events. Legesse comes in at number seven in the 1500-meter run and is ranked 18th in the 800-meter run.

In the distance events, OC is sending David McWilliams in the 5000-meter run and Joseph Zarazua in the marathon event. McWilliams is ranked 32nd out of 40 runners and Zarazua comes in at number 17 out of a list of 49.

Competing in the field for the Eagles will be Phillip Dale in the long jump and Brandon Jackson in the triple jump. Dale takes the 11th seed out of 29 while Jackson takes the fourth seed out of 23 in the men’s triple jump.

Denise Mattoon will lead the Lady Eagles as an All-American returner. Mattoon won the indoor national championship in the shot put and weight throw earlier this year. On the outdoor scene, Mattoon will again compete in the shot put and also compete in the hammer throw. Mattoon is ranked seventh in the shot put out of 32 competitors and comes in atop the chart in the hammer. Mattoon’s 56.20-meter performance leaves her ranked first out of 30 athletes competing in the event.

Also in the throws for the Lady Eagles will be Emily Ostlund in the Javelin. Ostlund is seeded 10th out of 32.

Irene Masai and Rachel Snider will compete in the middle distances for the Lady Eagles with Masai in the 800-meter run and Snider in the 1500-meter run. Masai is ranked 17th out of 24 going in while Snider is listed at 27th of 31.

The women’s team will also field a 4x800-meter relay with Kaili Tucker and Melyssa Cardenas joining forces with Masai and Snider.

Roz Hamilton will also compete for the Lady Eagles as she takes on the women’s heptathlon. Heading in with a score of 4287, Hamilton ranks 15th out of 16 competitors.

The national meet will begin on Thursday with events going through Saturday afternoon.
