PRIMME, Nev. (March 10, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian golf squad dominated the competition at the California Baptist University Invitational held on Monday and Tuesday as they beat out the second place team by 17 strokes.
After two impressive rounds coming in under par, the Eagles had created a lead that no one could catch. The squad tallied a 284 in the first round and bettered it in the second with a 281. The Eagles fell back in the final round shooting a 306, yet it did not matter as they still finished with a 17-stroke lead.
Oscar Stark and Axel Ochoa led the squad in the first round coming in three under par with each shooting a 69. Preston Wilkins added another impressive score to the mix with a 71.
In round two, Logan Herbst, Stark and Wilkins all shot 70’s while Ochoa hit a 71 to give the Eagles their best round of the tournament with a 281.
In the final round, Wilkins led the Eagles with a 74 and was followed by Richard Graham with a 76. Stark tallied a 77 for the round and the Eagles totaled a 306 overall.
The second place team, Southern Nazarene University (Okla.), shot an 888 to come in 17 strokes behind OC.
The OC golf squad, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA national coaches’ top 25, will return to play at the Texas Wesleyan Invitational on March 14-15.
