OC, Dalgliesh lead after 2 rounds in River Oaks Intercollegiate

OC’s Taylor Williams is tied for fourth after two rounds of the River Oaks Intercollegiate.

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 31, 2011) – Alisdair Dalgliesh fired a second-round 65 to take the individual lead, helping Oklahoma Christian jump to a seven-shot advantage Monday after two rounds of the River Oaks Intercollegiate golf tournament.

Dalgliesh posted a two-round total of 6-under 136 on the par-71, 6,698-yard layout at River Oaks Country Club, good for a one-shot lead over Joss Gosling of Northwood (Texas). Bradley Phelps of Rogers State is third at 138 and Taylor Williams – playing for a second OC squad entered in the tournament – is tied for fourth at 139 after firing rounds of 68 and 71 on a picture-perfect fall day.

Nick Chacon of Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) and David Walter of Grand View (Iowa) are tied with Williams. Jared Consoli of OC is seventh at 140. There’s a four-way tie for eighth at 142 between Caleb Roberson and Hunter Vest, both of Lee (Tenn.); OC’s Vilhelm Bogstrand; and Oklahoma City University’s Taylor Artman.

In the team race, OC’s first team is at 9-under-par 559, seven shots ahead of Grand View. OCU was another eight shots back at 6-over 574, one shot ahead of Our Lady of the Lake and Lee.

Rogers State was sixth at 579, followed by Wayland Baptist at 583, Southern Nazarene at 584, Northwood at 585, OC’s second team and Marian (Ind.) at 596, OCU’s second team at 597 and Bellevue (Neb.) at 614.

The tournament – the final event of OC’s fall season – drew six teams that finished in the top 17 in last year’s NAIA Championships, and the Eagles rose to the challenge. Four of OC’s five first-team golfers posted an under-par round Monday and Consoli held a share of the first-round lead after shooting a 68.

Dalgliesh’s 65 matched the fourth-best score posted during the tournament’s seven-year history

“I was very pleased with our day one scores,” OC Director of Golf David Lynn said. “We have a small lead and will need to play solid tomorrow to close out this event and the fall season. I’m very impressed with Ali’s round, as it was the low round today by three shots. Our upperclassmen played steady.”

Lynn said he also was pleased by Williams’ performance.

As for the other OC’s first-team golfers, Logan Herbst stood tied for 12th after posting a 143 while Preston Wilkins was tied for 45th at 150.

OC’s other second-team scores were a 149 by Kyle Hudleson (tied for 40th), 154 by Johnny Ellis and Cooper Denton and a 165 by Kyle Knierim.

The Eagles have won the tournament five of the previous six times it’s been played.
