MARION, Ind. (May 27, 2010) – Denise Mattoon’s All-American third place finish in the hammer throw on Thursday highlighted day one of three for the Oklahoma Christian track and field team at the NAIA outdoor national meet.
Mattoon threw the hammer 172 feet, seven inches to place third in the event and take home her third All-America honor for year after winning both the weight throw and shot put at NAIA Indoor Nationals in March.
Silas Kisorio and Frezer Legesse both qualified for semifinals in the 1500-meter run and 800-meter run events. In the 1500, Kisorio took second in his heat with a 3:53 to advance automatically while Legesse qualified on time in the same heat with a 3:54.81.
In the 800 preliminaries, Kisorio won his heat and ranks first heading into the semifinals with a 1:51.53. Legesse qualified on time ranking 16th heading into the semifinals with a 1:55.85.
Irene Masai advanced to the semifinals in the women’s 800-meter run with a 2:16.10 to place fifth in the second heat out of three.
The women’s 4x800-meter relay team ran to a seventh place finish in the second heat out of four with a 9:35.05 not advancing them to the finals. The time, however, was the second fastest in OC history surpassed only by the Lady Eagles’ qualifying time earlier this season.
