Langston deals Lady Eagles 1st loss of season, 92-79

LANGSTON, Okla. (Nov. 15, 2011) – Ayanna Jackson led six Langston players in double figures with 22 points as the Lions beat Oklahoma Christian 92-79 on Tuesday night at C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse, dealing the Lady Eagles their first loss of the basketball season.

Langston (3-0) committed 25 turnovers against OC’s pressure defense, but the Lions outrebounded the Lady Eagles 66-38 and dominated in the paint, helping them turn a one-point game at halftime into a double-digit win.

OC (3-1) shot 29.6 percent (24 of 81) from the field, including 25.6 percent (10 of 39) from 3-point range. Katy O’Steen led the Lady Eagles with 21 points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Eagles trailed only 33-32 at halftime, but led by the Jackson – who also had 10 rebounds – and the inside duo of Kimberly Jones (15 points, 12 rebounds) and Tayla Vaughn (14 points, nine rebounds), Langston pulled away in the second half.

Shontice Simmons added 17 points for Langston, which shot 51.2 percent from the field (21 of 41) after halftime.

Roz Hamilton added 11 points for OC. Katy Clift also scored 11 points but struggled from the field, going 1-of-11, all from 3-point range.

The Lady Eagles are off until Monday, when they will visit Northwestern Oklahoma State in their Sooner Athletic Conference opener.
