Lady Eagles surrender to OCU

OKLAHOMA CITY (March 9, 2010) – The Lady Eagles ran into trouble on the road against No. 3 Oklahoma City University as they dropped the first game 9-0 in five innings and lost the second 7-0.

Game 1

Christin Dobbs led off game one with a single. After back-to-back strikeouts, Dobbs was caught stealing second to end the Lady Eagles’ first inning.

After giving up five runs in bottom of the inning, the Lady Eagles worked their way into scoring position again when Michelle Miller singled to right field to move Ashley Calles to third base with two outs. Kayla Jennings struck out to end the inning, leaving the Lady Eagles down 5-0.

Oklahoma City scored two more runs in the bottom of the second and two in the bottom of the fourth to take a 9-0 lead. In the top of the fifth the Lady Eagles had runners on first and second but failed to bring them around, ending the game with a 9-0 decision.

Leigh Leonard pitched all four innings for the Lady Eagles giving up six earned runs on seven hits and recorded three strikeouts.

Deidre Chatigny led the Lady Eagles at the plate going two for two.

Game 2

Similar to the first game, the Lady Eagles got a runner to third base in the first but were unable to bring her home.

After giving up two runs in the bottom of the first, Sophia McKean pitched two scoreless innings before she gave up two runs in the fourth and a home run in the fifth leaving the Lady Eagles behind 5-0.

The Lady Stars scored two more runs in the sixth to take to a 7-0 lead while the Lady Eagles continued to struggle at the plate and left the victory to Oklahoma City.

The Lady Eagles only recorded five hits and got runners past second base only twice.

McKean pitched four innings for the Lady Eagles, giving up four earned runs on seven hits. Caitlin Matthies pitched the final two innings with two runs on one hit.

DaVee Croy, Amy Urbanovsky, Calles, Lauren Walk and Chatigny all had hits for the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Eagles will return to action March 12-13, when they travel to Orange Beach, Ala. to play in the Orange Beach Invitational.
