OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 3, 2011) – Duc Hyunh scored his first career goal and added an assist, helping Oklahoma Christian salvage a 2-2 tie with Oklahoma City University in a nonconference game between the Sooner Athletic Conference archrivals Saturday night.
A week after rolling past Sterling (Kan.) 7-0 in their season opener, the Eagles twice rallied against an OCU team that finished 11-6-2 last season. By contrast, OC struggled early and finished 5-13 in 2010.
OCU (0-0-1) went ahead 1-0 about 28 minutes into the game, when Adam Black scored on a feed from Steven Short. About a minute and a half later, Trey Boykin answered with his fourth goal of the season for OC (1-0-1), with Hyunh getting the assist.
The Stars took a 2-1 lead at the 54:25 mark, as Short recorded his second assist on a goal by Ryan Hunter. But seven minutes later, Hyunh responded with his first-ever goal for the Eagles. Neil Hilton and Cion Samuel assisted on Hyunh’s score.
The teams battled through two scoreless overtimes but neither side could break the deadlock.
OCU outshot the Eagles 16-14. OC goalkeeper Tim Spencer had 10 saves while his OCU counterpart, Joe Shulberg, had three saves.
OC head coach David Scott and OCU head coach Brian Harvey scheduled the nonconference game after both sides had trouble filling out their early season schedules.
This video features scenes from Chuck White’s final home game as OC’s head baseball coach. Coach White was the driving force in the revival of the baseball program and the construction of Dobson Field and the Bobby Murcer Indoor Training Facility.
