HUNTSVILLE, Texas (Oct. 14, 2009) – Despite wet conditions and omitting the third round of the Sam Houston State Invitational, the Oklahoma Christian golf team saw success on the green. Behind top ten finishes by Oscar Stark, Axel Ochoa, and Richard Graham, OC placed second in the nine-team tournament.
The Eagles’ golf team had to cut their tournament short early this week due to several days of rain. The golfers were only able to play two out of three rounds of the tournament.
Even so, Oscar Stark led the Eagles scoring 68 in the first round and backing it up with a solid 71 to finish third overall with a 139, only one stroke behind second. Right on Stark’s heels was the Eagles’ Axel Ochoa who shot a 71 in the first round and then bettered himself in the second shooting a 69. Ochoa totaled a 140 to tie for fourth with three others.
Only one stroke behind, Richard Graham of OC shot an impressive 67 in the first round followed by a 74 in the second. Graham totaled 141 overall and tied for eighth place individually.
Also competing for the OC squad were Preston Wilkins (74, 74) and Jordan Cook (72,77) who tied for 21st and 24th with 148 and 149 overall finishes, respectively.
In addition to their second place finish, the OC golf team remained high in today’s rankings. OC now sits at the No. 4 position in the Golf World/Nike Golf NAIA coaches’ poll. OC received 211 votes overall while still receiving one first place vote.
The OC golf squad returns to the green Oct. 25-27 at the Houston Baptist Invitational in Houston, Texas.
