PHOENIX, Ariz. (Feb. 17, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian golf team utilized the third round of the Southern Nazarene University Arizona Intercollegiate golf tournament to come back from 12 strokes behind and win on Tuesday.
The golf tournament took place on Monday and Tuesday of this week with rounds one and two taking place on Monday. After round two, the Eagles’ squad had combined for 295 in round one and 293 in round two to total 588 for the both, 12 strokes behind first place.
The score of 588 left the Eagles in fifth heading into Tuesday and the final round of the tournament.
In round three, the Eagles remained close to par to shoot well all around. The lowest scores for the Eagles were only three over par while freshman Logan Herbst shot par and senior Richard Graham came in one under to lead the Eagles for round three.
Preston Wilkins shot just one over in round three while both Axel Ochoa and Oscar Stark shot 75’s. The final round score for the Eagles was 291, which was good enough to tie with first in the overall tournament with a score of 879. Utilizing the fifth man’s scores, however, the Eagles took home the first place trophy.
Great rounds were seen from Ochoa and Wilkins who led the Eagles overall and each shot 217 overall to tie for fourth place individually. Ochoa shot one over in round one before coming in three under par with a 69 in round two. Wilkins hit par in round one and two before shooting just one over in round three.
Herbst’s total score of 224 tied him for 22nd individually and Graham and Stark came in 27th and 28th place, respectively.
The Eagles will hit the green next at the California Baptist University Invitational in Primme, Nev. on Mar. 8-9.
