Eagles drop No. 19 Cumberland

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (March 9, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team took care of business late in the game to earn a 13-10 victory over No. 19 Cumberland University at Dobson Field on Tuesday night.

The Eagles experienced a bumpy start when Cumberland’s Kris Miller hit a three run homer followed by a second homer on the next at bat by Troy Frazier in the first inning.

Down 4-0 after the first, the Eagles held CU from scoring in the second before tallying three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Zac Coshow brought home the first run after making his way to third and Jeff Davis hitting a single to send him in.

The next two runs came from a Dillon Andrews triple that sent home Justin Ebert and Tyler Gipson.

The Eagles took control of the game in the third as they held CU through another scoreless inning. In the bottom of the third, the Eagles tallied six more runs to take a 9-4 lead.

Dustin Andrews hit a homerun to send in Jordan Price and himself to tally the first two runs of the third. Gipson followed with another run later after Davis registered a single. Balch follow suit with Andrews and hit a homerun of his own to bring home two more runs for the Eagles as White was on base. Dillon Andrews brought in the last score for the Eagles that inning when Price singled.

A scoreless fourth inning followed before Cumberland took advantage of the fifth and tallied five runs to tie up the game 9-9. CU took the lead in the sixth after holding the Eagles from another score and registered one more to make the score 10-9 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

The Eagles rallied in the bottom of the sixth as they brought home four more runs. Dustin Andrews rounded the bases first and was followed by pinch runner Chance Nichols who scored on the next bat. Tyler Gipson and Josh Balch brought home the last two runs on a Heath Steele double.

At 13-10, the Eagles held Cumberland from scoring in the seventh and ended the game with the victory.

At the plate, Dillon Andrews headed the Eagles’ hitting going four for five with a run and two RBIs. Steele went three for five with two RBIs while Dustin Andrews hit two out of four and scored two runs and batted in two runs as well. Gipson went two for three scoring three runs and tallying an RBI.

The Eagles will head to Texas to take on Lubbock Christian University on March 12 and 13.
