OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (March 4, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian baseball team had no problem rounding the bases against Saint Gregory’s University (Okla.) on Thursday in an 11-5 victory over the Cavaliers.
After a scoreless first inning, the Eagles used the bottom of the second to put up three runs on the board and take an early lead. Tyler Gipson picked up the first run for the Eagles after getting on base with a double and then making it home on Quaid Johns’ single to right field.
Two more runs were scored when Dillon Andrews hit a triple with Johns and Josh Balch both on base.
The Eagles added another run in the fourth when Johns made his way around the bases on a sacrifice fly hit by Chance Nichols.
The Cavaliers got on the board in the fifth when they picked up their first two runs before the Eagles retaliated with five more of their own in the bottom of the inning.
The first two runs came from a Jordan Price homer that brought in Taylor Parcus from second in addition to Price. Dustin Andrews brought home another on an SGU wild pitch. With Gipson on third and Johns on second, Jeff Davis hit a double to bat in two more runs for the Eagles.
Price picked up another run for the Eagles in the sixth before both teams scored one run apiece in the eighth inning. Dustin Andrews scored the Eagles’ run from second base after Chris Miller hit a double to right field.
The Cavaliers added two more runs to their score in the top of the ninth before the game ended with the Eagles triumphing 11-5.
Davis led the Eagles from the plate as he hit three for four and tallied two RBIs. Johns went two for three with one RBI and score three runs. Gipson batted two out of four and tallied two runs as well.
Ryan Morris pitched a complete game for the Eagles and only allowed four runs and registered two strikeouts.
The Eagles will head to Shawnee, Okla. on Saturday to rematch the Cavaliers in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
