Eagle tennis clinch back-to-back wins

EDMOND, Okla. (Feb. 12, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian men’s tennis team left no doubt in Friday’s matches against NCAA division II schools claiming 9-0 victories in both.

The No. 8 ranked Eagles played East Central University on Friday morning at the Oak Tree Country Club.

Thomas Van Cauter of OC started off the singles competition for the Eagles with two 6-0 sets to defeat East Central’s Andres Nunez. The Eagles’ Martin Poboril followed suit defeating ECU’s Stefan Stein 6-1, 6-3.

OC’s Etienne Leite defeated Sam Moore 6-0, 6-1 and Renardy Guelfi routed Dai Eduards 6-2, 6-0 to pick up two more wins for the Eagles. To finish off singles play, Esteban Flores beat out ECU’s Carlos Muro 6-2, 6-1 and Chase milled defeated Ignacio Lucero 6-1, 6-2.

For doubles, Poboril teamed with Leite to defeat Nunez and Eduards 8-2. Van Cauter and Guelfi then cooperated to take down Stein and Moore 8-1 before OC’s Flores and Miller finished out doubles play with an 8-4 victory over ECU’s Schulty and Healton.

On Friday night, the Eagles took on the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith and repeated with another 9-0 victory.

Van Cauter started off singles for the Eagles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Matheus Silva. Martin Poboril pulled out a 7-5 victory over UAFS’s Brandon Underwood before claiming the second set 6-1.

Leite of OC had no problem handling UAFS’s Evan Piche in a 6-1, 6-0 victory and Guefli earned two 6-3 successes against Beau Basham. Flores took out Cameron Terrell with 6-4, 6-2 wins before Miller finished out the Eagles’ singles play with two 6-0 sets against Martin Tabler.

In doubles, Poboril and Leite teamed again to win 8-2 while Van Cauter and Guelfi did the same to earn two doubles victories for the Eagles. Flores and Miller pulled out the last doubles match 8-6 to clinch the 9-0 victory for the Eagles’ squad.

The Eagles will play Harding University in Arkansas next Thursday.
