DeGrazia shines as Eagles win 2nd straight, 3-1 over St. Gregory’s

Domenico DeGrazia had a goal and an assist to lead OC past St. Gregory’s 3-1.

SHAWNEE, Okla. (Oct. 22, 2011) – Domenico DeGrazia had a goal and an assist, leading Oklahoma Christian to its second straight win, 3-1 over St. Gregory’s on Saturday afternoon.

Oklahoma Christian (7-4-4, 3-3-2 Sooner Athletic Conference) stands sixth in the league standings with 11 points with two games remaining. Only six points separate second-place Lubbock Christian (14 points) from ninth-place Oklahoma City University (8 points). The top eight teams make the SAC tournament, with the top four seeds hosting first-round games on Nov. 4.

OC will host Lubbock Christian on Thursday and Wayland Baptist (13 points, tied for third) on Saturday to close the regular season.

The Eagles, coming off a 3-1 win Tuesday over Oklahoma Baptist, battled through a scoreless first half against St. Gregory’s (3-8-3, 0-5-2). In the 58th minute, OC finally broke through the Cavaliers’ defensive shell, as DeGrazia fed Trey Boykin, who scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later, though, Hugo Mondragon equalized for the Cavaliers.

DeGrazia broke the tie in the 73rd minute with his fifth goal of the season. The Cavaliers’ Greg Keogh received a red card and was ejected in the 80th minute, leaving St. Gregory’s a player down. OC took advantage, as Neil Hilton scored an insurance goal in the 87th minute.

OC outshot the Cavaliers 16-6.

“St. Greg’s is a tough place to go and play,” OC head coach David Scott said. “I was happy with the patience we showed and our ability to get a result today. SGU played a very defensive formation today and made it tough to break them down, but we were able to create a few good opportunities and put the ball in the net.”

OC goalkeeper Tim Spencer made three saves while his St. Gregory’s counterpart, Brock Vorwald, had seven saves.
